Artist Spotlight - Jack Oliver Coles

Jack Oliver Coles - Master Of the Colouring Pencil... Now as children we all had colouring pencils, I personally had a whole bunch, watercolour  pencils, fancy Caran D'ache pencils I stole from my mum, cheapo ones from the supermarket, they're a very easy medium to get hold of. So when I first saw Jack's work I wanted to kick my past self for not sticking with the medium I'd used so much as a child. Jack's expertise with this medium is what stands out the most, he's achieved a style and a look that none of us knew was possible when we first picked up colouring pencils. I also love Jack's illustrative insight, the softness of his style really fits...

Artist Spotlight - Lotte Vanns

Tough and tender, soft and sharp, Lotte Vanns is known for her stick 'n' poke tattoos and her un-ashamedly honest artwork. We became friends with Lotte a few years ago after seeing her at some art fairs here in Bristol, and after a few studio visits she became a great friend of ours. We're big fans of Lotte's work and the thoughts and feelings she puts into her illustration. As someone who openly suffers with depersonalisation a lot of Lotte's work centres around staying grounded and trying to feeling real in this confusing world. Lotte's recently started tattooing some of her illustrations and they're all so beautiful, the simplicity and elegance has carried over from her illustrative work to her...

Artist Spotlight - Evie May Adams

Known for her charming ceramic work and great colours, Evie has become a firm favourite of ours!   We found Evie's work at an Art Fair in Brighton and just fell in love with it, the sharp colours, the great themes and character designs, it was charming and witty and everything we love about Illustration.   We especially love the way she depicts animals, and how decorative her pieces can be! We just knew she'd be able to make something really quaint and whimsical for the club. Evie's mostly known for her work with ceramics so we were unsure what product to get her to make that would showcase this great skill. Her pattern work and her confidence with only...

Artist Spotlight - Bridget Meyne

Bridget M - maker of fierce, female comics. We first met Bridget at one of the events she helps organise, Brighton Illustration Fair, or BIF for short, and fell in love with the illustration style. I think her confident line-work and wonderful character design is what appealed the most, and we've been big fans of her work ever since.    As well as being part of the BIF team, Bridget has also done a lot of work for The Illustrated Mind  who make t-shirts and get a whole heap of great artists to create great designs for them! Here's one of Bridget's designs for Illustrated Mind - So what's she made for us? As with all our previous featured Artists we...

Sketchbook Club Online!

Ok, so it's been a while since we've posted a blog post BUT since the start of this year things have been HECTIC. I mean like, super-crazy-what day is it-where am I-hectic. So, we do apologise.  In case you somehow haven't seen, we've started an online workshop! Well, it's kind of a workshop. It's called Sketchbook Club Online and it's based on the sketchbook club workshops we are currently running with the Bristol Young People's Charity Off The Record. In those workshops we provide sketchbooks and materials and encourage our attendees to just sketch along to a theme and we all have a good chat.  We've had a lot of positive feedback to these sessions, our attendees seem to really...
